Which candidates do we support?

The LOHV is a strictly non-partisan organization, and has endorsed candidates running on the Democratic, Republican, Green, and Working Families Party lines. We endorse candidates strictly on their expressed commitment to work with us on passing legislation to protect animals, and for incumbents, on their record on these issues.

Our Endorsements for the 2010 Primary and Mid-Term General Election:

Governor  |  Lt. Governor  |  Legislators

For Governor of Pennsylvania:
JACK WAGNER

PA is one of two states with multiple LOHV chapters. Chapters form when there's an abuse that needs action, and PA has a LOT of work to do. Strides have been made in some areas, but we still have a long way to go and a lot of work ahead of us.

We’re proud, therefore, to endorse and pledge our support, across the state, for a man who has pledged to help move that work along.

He’s pledged to support and strengthen the Dog Law by appointing people to the Canine Health Board who truly have the best interests of the DOGS at heart

He supports an end to the use of the gas chamber, a barbaric method of killing shelter dogs and cats

He supports an end to the 24/7 chaining of dogs

And he supports an end, finally, to the pigeon shoot.

We couldn't ask for much more in a candidate, but we got it.

Jack Wagner was eager to meet with us, and open to discussing our goals.

Jack Wagner asked questions, did research, asked more questions, and then put his support of our goals in writing. (<click to read his letter)

Jack Wagner was proud to receive our endorsement, and it was his idea to announce it in a press conference (date to be announced - please stay tuned) )- to show his support for the LOHV and our goals - and to show support for ALL of PA's many rescues, shelters, and animal advocacy groups.

For Lieutenant Governor:
JONATHAN A. SAIDEL

After being interviewed by Ginger Wolfe, head of our Lehigh County Chapter, an endorsement for Jonathan Saidel was a simple decision. His stated - and published - views on the pigeon shoot, dog tethering (he's against the abusive 24/7 chaining of dogs), and his belief in the need to protect all living creatures was reason enough to give Jonathan our unreserved support. Please visit his website, and be sure to tell your friends and fellow animal protection advocates to vote for him and contribute to his campaign.

More races and our endorsements in them COMING SOON!
